LeRoy John Lopez

LeRoy Lopez, 84, resident of Albuquerque, passed away on May 4, 2021. Leroy was born in Santa Fe, NM. He attended St. Michael's High School until 1950 when the family, then, moved to Santa Rosa, NM. He graduated from Santa Rosa High School where he participated in football, track, and boxing, winning the Golden Gloves Title in his weight division.

He was a US Navy veteran. He acquired a broadcasting license and was a radio announcer for KSYX in Santa Rosa and KABQ in Albuquerque for many years. He was also an aircraft technician at the Albuquerque airport for Continental Airlines.

LeRoy was a devout Catholic having been a longtime member of St. Bernadette's Catholic Church. He enjoyed reciting poetry, playing his guitar, and was an accomplished singer having released an album titled, LeRoy y Sus Interpretes.

He is survived by his children, William (Billy) Lopez and LeRoy Lopez of Santa Rosa, NM; Paul Lopez of Denver, CO; Cynthia Trujillo (Charles) and Lucia Fauver (Jeff) of Albuquerque, NM; his siblings, Charles Lopez of Taos, NM; JoAnn Garcia, Rosella Nufer (Bill) and Eileen Baca (Johnny) all of Albuquerque, NM; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, Mary and Mike Lopez; brother, Michael "Buddy" Lopez; sister, Lillian Renteria; and a son, Mark Lopez.

Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at Santuario de Guadalupe in Santa Fe, NM, followed by interment of ashes at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 pm.
