Leora (Lee) Heidenberger

October 11, 1929 — July 19, 2013

After a long and progressive illness, LeOra (Lee) died peacefully while loved ones kept watch. She then began her final eternal journey. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Irene Scott; her husband, Marvin; her brother, Melvin; her sisters, Doris Bloomquist and Mildred Abram; and a much-loved nephew, Dean Bloomquist. Lee was born and raised in Minnesota, then started her family in Michigan and considered New Mexico and Albuquerque her long-due reward. Since 1981, she loved living in our beautiful and unique state. She leaves behind family members and friends who are rejoicing that her suffering has ended and she is free, but are now realizing their loss. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Cory and his partner Michael Ortiz; her daughter, Lana Thomas and son-in-law, Danny; grandchildren, Marissa Thomas and Brandon Thomas; sister-in-law, Mildred Heidenberger and many nieces, nephews and countless friends. LeOra will be remembered and missed for her compassion, wisdom, strength, generosity, and sense of humor. Lee was a warm and special lady who could become friends with strangers almost instantly. She loved and protected her family throughout her life and learned at an early age just how important her family was to her. Moving to Albuquerque in 1981 was a gift to herself after many years of struggling. She flourished in New Mexico and loved this state and all it offers. She worked steadily her adult life, from making Singer sewing machines in Minnesota, to working for the United Way in Saginaw, MI. The working environment she loved the best was her last career - working for the Dean of Zimmerman Library at UNM. Mom was amazing. We are happy she is free from continued suffering. Now, her memories will remain and remind us what a truly beautiful and wonderful lady Lee was. Cremation has taken place. Memorial Services will be held Monday, August 5, 2013, 2:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Wyoming. In lieu of flowers, Lee has requested that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice. FRENCH - Wyoming 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE (505) 823-9400
