Leopoldo C. "Leo" Romero

March 16, 1962 — September 17, 2014

ROMERO, LEOPOLDO C. "LEO" Leo Romero, born on March 15, 1962, was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque. He lost his battle against a very aggressive form of cancer, was embraced by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was welcomed into eternal glory on September 17, 2014. Leo was a kind and gentle man that will be greatly missed by his friends and family. He was preceded in death by his father, Amado A. Romero. He is survived by his mother, Ofelia Romero; brothers, Mark, James and wife Doris, Leonard, David, Patrick, John and wife, Abby; sisters, Maria, Helen and husband Dr. Mike Johnsen of Rio Rancho, Dr. Ann Margaret Bieri and husband Dr. Mark Bieri of Las Cruces; nieces, Megan and Katie; nephews, Aaron, Steven, Thomas, David, Jonathon, David, Noah, Joshua and Adam. Leo is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A rosary led by Helen Johnsen will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St. Josephs Ave. NW. Mass of Christian burial will be held the following day, September 24, 2014, at 9 a.m. at the same location, with Monsignor Lambert Luna presiding. Interment will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery following the mass. In lieu of flowers, friends may make contributions to the UNM Cancer Center, www.cancer.unm.edu . A reception will be held following the mass and interment. Following the mass, an announcement will be made for the location of the reception. The family would like to thank the many professionals at UNMH for the expert care given to our brother during his stay in the oncology unit.
