Leo Lucero, age 101, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family after a brief illness on Friday, April 1, 2016. "Tio Leo" was a beloved and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. He was a World War II Army veteran and was among the few who served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was an accomplished chef having retired from the University of New Mexico. Leo was preceded in death by the love of his life, Annie; siblings, Amalia, Beatrice, Barbara, Rosario, Genaro, Manuel, Mary, and Terry. He is survived by his daughters, JoAnn Carrara (Bruno) and Margie Smokov; sister, Grace Atencio; grandchildren, Robert Olsen, Gayle Olsen (Harvey), Maria Gonzales, Eric Smokov (Shawn), Stephanie Francis (Paul), Jeanna MacDonald (Rocky), Justin and Thomas Bowie; great-grandchildren, Maggie, Logan, Wesley, Eugene, Augustus, George, Sophia, and Ian; and many Godchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Tio Leo lived a very happy and full life. He will be missed tremendously by so many. Tio Leo would like you all to "don't worry, be happy." Rosary will be recited Wednesday, April 6, 2016, 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas, with visitation one hour prior from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, April 7, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, Lomas and Tennessee.
