Leatrice Joy Dale ("Joy"), Long-time Albuquerque resident died the morning of August 31, 2021. She was born in Dallas, Texas in November of 1923. When her mother decided to move to Albuquerque to help at May's Music Store she was just a sophomore in high school. It was at AHS that she became friends with Marie; the two were friends up to the day Joy passed.
Joy was preceded in death by her mother, Marvel May Dittert; her father, Alfred Dittert; her husband of 51 years, Bill; her daughter, Linda Wilson; her son-in-law, Phil Wilson; and her brother, Alfred Dittert, Jr. She is survived by her son, Douglas Dale and wife Beverly of Albuquerque; five grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Joy retired from the telephone company after several years of working as a clerk. She and her husband were active in the Telephone Pioneers. Joy was also active in Eastern Star, achieving the office of Worthy Matron of Desert Rose Chapter in 1976. Many happy memories are of the times the family shared at their cabin in Platoro, Colorado. While there Joy loved watching the many hummingbirds that gathered outside the window, walking among the wild flowers, and gathering wild mushrooms. She loved spending time with her family and her friends. Often that time included winning at Spinner or putting together a puzzle. Her favorite times of all were going to tea. Always thoughtful, Joy remembered birthdays, anniversaries, and special occasions of her family and friends. Thankfully, she was able to enjoy many of her own birthdays in good health and with a sharp mind.
In lieu of flowers, gifts can be directed to Manzano del Sol transportation fund or Adah Chapter of the Eastern Star.
