Our loving mother and grandmother, Lea Carol Young, age 88, passed peacefully from this Earth on Monday evening, August 23, 2021.
Lea is survived by her daughters, Dr. Tina Welker and husband Frank of Grand Junction, CO, Susie Alcon and husband Rick of Albuquerque; stepdaughter, Debra Weeks of CA; brother, Dr. Willis Dankle of Clear Lake, IA; granddaughters, Dr. Sara Alcon of Edmond, OK, Dr. Karee Byram (Dale) of Grand Junction, CO, Kristen Soden (Galen) of Albuquerque, and Cassie Franke (Travis) of Austin, TX. Lea was blessed to have 7 great grandchildren; Flynn, Addilyn, Raelyn, Wylder, Weston, Trace, and Rhys. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, as well as friends from the neighborhood, and Christian brothers and sisters at Netherwood Park Church of Christ.
Lea was preceded in death by her parents, Lynn and Ione Dankle; brother, Walter Dankle; and infant daughter, Lori Lynne Young.
Lea was born in Red Oak, IA where she was raised with her two brothers. She graduated from Belle Plaine High School where she was a cheerleader and played in the band. She married James Young in December of 1954 and they moved to Albuquerque with Sandia Labs. After a rewarding 30-year career with Universal Metal Spinning Co, Lea enjoyed retirement living independently in the family home, until recently when she joined her new friends and loving caregivers at Morningstar.
Lea's spunky personality, sense of humor, and love for animals shone through. She found enjoyment playing Bingo and giving away the candy she won to her friends. She will be sorely missed.
A celebration of Lea's life will be planned in the near future. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Albuquerque Christian Children's Home in her name.
