Skrivseth, Lawrence T. Age 68, a resident of New Mexico since 2006 and a frequent visitor for two decades prior to that, died June 3, 2014 after a brief illness. Larry will be mourned and missed by his family and many friends, including his life partner, Dixie Cole, and her family; his daughter, Lenka Skrivseth Glassman, and husband, Mathieu; sisters, Esther Powell, Shirley Rice and husband, John, Sigrid Houston and husband, Scott; brothers Kenneth and wife, Karen Lubieniecki, Eric and wife, Margaret; stepson, William Hemsley, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Eleanor (Turli) Skrivseth; and sister, Karen. Born and raised in Falls Church, VA, Larry graduated from the University of Virginia and received a Master's Degree in French from Vanderbilt University. He was drafted into the Army in Vietnam. Fluent in several languages, Larry joined the Bureau of Language Services of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in 1975, rising to the position of Chief of the English Division in 1989. He retired in 2001 and then worked as a freelance translator for several years. He moved to New Mexico in 2006. He gave generously of his time and resources to arts, music and conservation organizations. Larry explored his physical world with the same gusto in which he explored literature and ideas. Larry loved life and lived it to the fullest. A small family celebration of his life was held June 7, 2014 in Rio Rancho. No further services are planned in New Mexico. A memorial service is being planned for the East Coast this summer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New Mexico Jazz Workshop.
