Lawrence E. "Larry" Nelson

Lawrence "Larry" E. Nelson left this life to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on January 10, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Larry was born May 28, 1934 to Thelma Gordon Nelson and Ernest S. Nelson in Williston, North Dakota. When he was nine years old, his family moved to Spokane, Washington.

Larry proudly served in the US Army from 1954 until 1957, spending one year in Germany with a support group for the Corporal Missile. He married the love of his life, Carol Burk, on December 27, 1957. Together they went to Chicago where he finished his schooling at DeVry Tech. In 1959 they moved to Albuquerque where he worked with Sandia National Laboratories for 37 years. He was an avid Bible scholar, an accomplished pianist, guitarist, artist, photographer and a World War II history buff.

Both of his parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol and three daughters: Cathy (Mark) McCray and their children Andrew (Mariah), Andrignis, Lindsey (boyfriend Robert) and Matthew McCray; Janet Price and her sons Terrance Price (fiancé Amber), Robert Price and Robert's son Samuel; Barbie (Jeff) Smith and their children Daniel Zimpelman (fiancé Jessica), Ryley and Megan Smith. He is also survived by his brother, Gary Nelson of Vancouver, WA; sister Andrea Norton, of Tacoma, WA; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A truly loving and Christian man, Larry will be missed and loved forever by his family and many friends.

The family wishes to thank Presbyterian Hospice for their help. Special thanks also to Adele Archuleta for her loving care as Larry struggled with Parkinson's Disease and also Dr. William Summers for his compassionate care and concern for Larry for 3 years. A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 13, 2016, 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. Funeral Service will be Thursday, January 14, 2016, 10:45 a.m. at Christ The Ray of Hope Lutheran Church, 7001 San Antonio NE. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd NE. Should friends desire memorial contributions may be made in Larry's name to Free Wheelchair Mission or Military Bible Sticks in care of Christ The Ray of Hope Lutheran Church, 7001 San Antonio NE. Albuquerque, NM 87109.
