Lawrence "Larry" A. Hooper, born in Montrose, CO, on Tuesday, December 22, 1931, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2022. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Joyce Compton-Hooper; his son, "Papa" Tim Hooper; and his brother, John C. Hooper. He is survived by his daughter, Helen Lucero; and son, Marcus; stepdaughter, Holly Compiano and son, Anthony; nephews, Steve Hooper and wife, Jolynn, Fred Hooper and wife, Carol, Scott Hein and wife, Ellen; and niece, Adele Montez.
After serving four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, he worked for most of his career at the Bell Telephone Company (Ma Bell) where he met Joyce. In retirement, he and Joyce, both Porsche fanatics, traveled all over the country in "Ol' Blue", winning numerous awards during their travels. They were long-time members of the Porsche Club of America and met some of their dearest friends through the local Roadrunner Region of the Porsche Club. He was an advocate for carrying on the Hooper family tradition of eating Lutefisk on Christmas Eve, often eating seconds of this "delectable" fish. Larry is now with his wife, Joyce and son, Tim, who also cherished that tradition. We will miss the stories he told, and his never-ending humor that remained with him throughout his well-lived life.
His Final Resting place will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with Joyce. Burial will take place on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at 3:00 p.m.
