It is with great sadness we announce the passing of LaVonne Louise Brasher on December 1, 2024, after reaching a truly prodigious 90 years of age.
LaVonne Louise Brasher was born October 20, 1934, to loving parents Melvin and Dorothy Lahr. In 1952, LaVonne graduated from Albuquerque High School. Not long after, she met her husband and love of her life, Eugene Brasher. It was love at first sight when he took her by the hand to usher her to their seats in the Kimo theater, and they found themselves married shortly thereafter, on September 10, 1955. They've been together ever since, proudly celebrating their 69th Wedding Anniversary this past September.
She spent a large portion of her career working at Albuquerque Linoleum and Carpet, before going into Storage Management. For many years, her and Eugene were partners at Mel Lahr's Storage Park, before retiring in 2005.
LaVonne was a wonderful woman, with a large heart and an engaging and lively personality. She always had a nice thing to say, and was always delighted to have company. She could talk to anybody, and often found confidants wherever she went. She enjoyed traveling, enjoying trips to such places as Alaska, Canada and Italy; although her most regularly traveled spot was Elephant Butte Lake.
She was a formidable card player, with her long time favorite being Shanghai rummy. She was well known for her sweet face as she declared she had nothing to work with, only to lay down the most beautiful hands with a distinctive 'pum, pum, pum'.
She was devoted to her family, and a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. In her eyes, all of her children and grandchildren genuinely held the title of her Favorite-their size.
She died at home, surrounded by family, taken by a disease that she had already beaten handily once. She will be deeply and profoundly missed. LaVonne is survived by her husband Eugene; her daughters Jeanette, Ella and Gena Marie (Sam); her son Melvin; and her two granddaughters, Genevieve and Alexandria, and several nieces, nephews and close friends. We will always love you, Grandma. A bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck!
