LaVerne Pollat, formerly of Los Alamos, NM., passed away on Tuesday September 8, 2015, in Rio Rancho, NM. He was 80 years old. LaVerne was born February 27, 1935 in Cozad, NE. He was the son of Patrick and Ruth (Gayman) Pollat. He served in the U.S. Army and received an Honorary Discharge in 1956. He married Eldene Miller of Gothenburg, NE and following his graduation from Nebraska State Teachers College, he and his wife moved to Los Alamos, where Pollat taught at Los Alamos High School. He retired from Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1998, where he worked for 35 years. LaVerne was preceded in death by his wife, his father and mother, and son Michael Jay Pollat and Sister Dorothy Peterson. He married Janet Busch in 1997, and they moved to Rio Rancho following their retirement from LANL. LaVerne enjoyed fishing, hunting, scuba diving, trap shooting, boating and traveling. He and Janet spent many of their 18 years together traveling the world. He is survived by his wife; sons Scott Pollat of Arizona and Tim (Carol) Pollat of White Rock; six grandchildren, Sarah, Sarina, Amanda, Alexa, MaLissa, Ryan; stepsons Tony Newlin and wife Blythe of California, Greg Newlin and wife Bonnie of Maryland; grandchildren Vance, Bella and Reese; sisters Donna Weese and Verla Jamison, both of National City, CA. Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 12, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at Guaje Pines Cemetery Los Alamos, NM 87544.
