Lauren M. Abeita-Shortman, loving mother, wife and friend started her journey Home on Monday June 26, 2023. Daughter of Faustine and Andrea Abeita she was raised in McCartys, NM as a proud member of the Pueblo of Acoma. After graduating from St. Michaels Indian School, she went on to attend Haskell in Lawrence, KS as well as NMSU in Grants, NM. Her education afforded her a long career with the Federal Government starting in 1968 through her days in Realty Management with IHS. She was a woman of many talents...from amazing us all with stories of her days working for the State Dept. in Washington D.C. to amazing her family with her delicious tortillas and Indian Tacos she did it all. Lauren leaves behind her devoted husband Terrance of 28 years; her adoring daughter, Mia; and her son, Jonathan.
Lauren was also a proud grandmother to her loving granddaughter Ayana; her love Giovanni, as well as Elijah, Totyana and Kwame. In 2021 Lauren became a great-grandmother to her great grandson Hazaiah whom she adored.
Lauren leaves to cherish their many memories, a host of relatives, cherished friends and colleagues.
A Memorial Service for Lauren will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 10, 2023 at FRENCH- Wyoming, with a Graveside Service at Sunset Memorial Park at 11:30 a.m. A Reception will follow at Selah Baptist Church, 9533 Osuna Rd NE at 12:30 p.m.
