Larry Robert Vasey

February 11, 1951 — May 13, 2020

Larry Vasey, age 69, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2020 after a well fought battle with cancer. Larry was born on February 11, 1951 in Kemmerer, Wyoming; he was preceded in death by his parents Leslie C. Vasey and Wanda M. Vasey, and his older brother Leslie J. Vasey. He is survived by his wife, Anita, of Rio Rancho, and his younger brother Leonard K. Vasey of Overland Park, Kansas.

After graduating from the University of Wyoming with a BS in Microbiology, Larry moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he pursued careers in medical research, computer systems management and programming. Larry retired from the City of Albuquerque after 22 years working as a Systems Manager and Programmer.

Larry loved animals, nature, and the great outdoors. He would seize every opportunity to go camping, and delight his fellow campers with his open fire cooking skills.

Over the years Larry’s hobbies included woodworking, photography, and more recently, beer brewing. He and Anita traveled extensively, taking their motorcycle and later, their RV, to multiple destinations in the U.S. In addition, they visited Mexico, Australia, many countries in Europe, and enjoyed numerous cruises to exotic locales. An avid snorkeler, his favorite destinations were those where the water was warm, clear and calm.

Larry kept his family and friends on their toes with his quick-witted humor and clever one-liners. He was smart, friendly, and immensely likeable; his smile and his ability to make everyone feel comfortable will be sorely missed.

Should friends desire, contributions may be sent to The American Cancer Society.
