Larry Reed Trussell

August 18, 1942 — June 4, 2021

Larry Reed Trussell passed on 4 June 2021, at the age of 78, in his hometown of Albuquerque, NM. His battle with kidney and Parkinson's disease showed his courage in facing life's challenges with a smile. Despite his adversities, Larry continued to love life and enjoy his family until the final day of his life.

Larry was a native of Albuquerque, where he attended Highland High School. He was Junior Class President and an undefeated New Mexico State wrestling champion. He attended the University of New Mexico and graduated in 1965 with a degree in Business Administration.

Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in 1966. While stationed at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, TX, he met the love of his life, Barbara Fletcher. When asked what attracted him to her, he replied, "She had a good-looking fanny." Their love for one another carried on for 39 years, until Barbara's passing in 2009.

Larry separated from the U.S. Army in 1969 and continued with his education at University of Texas at El Paso. His career spanned across multiple industries throughout the Southwest. He worked for Kohlhass Tank and Equipment Co, Tiqua Indian Reservation, Academy Corporation, Sutin, Thayer & Brown and Bernalillo County.

Larry's favorite hobbies included travel, fly fishing, motorcycle riding and golf. He was a prolific fisherman, often departing town alone to seek out elusive trout across the Rocky Mountains. He gave back to the sport by volunteering his keen accounting skills to New Mexico Trout, an organization dedicated to the preservation and education of the native New Mexican trout and their habitat.

Larry is survived by his son, Travis Trussell and his family, Brandy Trussell and granddaughter, Dorothy Trussell. Larry is also survived by his brothers, Grayson Lee Trussell and Fred Trussell.
