Larry Chavez

Larry Chavez, 95, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 4, 2016. Larry was born in Tome, NM on Wednesday, October 20, 1920 and was raised in Barelas and Old Town. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Lupie; and his son, Ralph Chavez.
Larry served in the United States Army for five years and received his honorable discharge and Purple Heart following a combat injury in WWII. Upon returning from the Army, Larry met and married Lupie. He worked for the government from 1946-1976 and served as a Bailiff for the 2nd Judicial District of the State or New Mexico from 1977-1987. He enjoyed his quiet retirement, mostly fishing his favorite lakes and streams in New Mexico.
He is survived by his two daughters, Linda Martinez and husband, Frank and Rita Riewe and husband, Greg; six grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, 9:00 a.m., at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church, 2005 N. Plaza St. NW (Old Town), with Mass to follow at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.
