Larry E. Bowen, Sr., age 78, passed away at his home on Monday, May 11, 2015, after a prolonged illness. He was born in Moline, IL on December 13, 1936 to Lawrence and Winona Bowen. The family moved to Carlsbad, NM where he graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1954. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Albuquerque and Larry worked at Sandia Corporation where he completed the Machinist Apprentice Program. He then worked as a machinist for the Inhalation Toxicology Research Institute (later Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute) until he started his own business, In-Tox Products. He took great pride in his machine shop that produced specialized scientific equipment for use in aerosol science and inhalation research. Larry greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and the many years he spent coaching youngsters in the Young America Football League and Little League Baseball. Larry was preceded in death by his only daughter, Mary Winona Bowen; his parents, Lawrence and Winona; and his brother, Kent Bowen. He is survived by his wife, Sharon and three sons, Larry, Jr. and his wife Leslie, David Bowen and Bill Bowen and his wife Michelle. He was very proud of eight grandchildren, Danny (Nicole), Brandon, Katelyn, Evan, Sarah (Bobby), Matthew, Nathan and Ryan Bowen; five great-grandchildren Zachary, Bri, Rachel, Joshua and Emma. He also leaves his nephew, Steven Bowen and niece Carole Newsom (Gene) and their families as well as many cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at the Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, located at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE.
