Larry C. Abrams, a resident of Albuquerque, NM since 1964 passed from this life on Sunday, January 14, 2018. He was born to Inez Abrams, an only child, on November 4, 1920 in Bastrop, TX. Larry was raised by his grandmother, Caroline Moten. Both his mother and grandmother have preceded him in death.

He graduated from Anderson High School in Austin, TX in 1938. Larry attended Prairie View A&M College and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture and a Master’s in Economics at UCLA. In 1942 he left to serve in the United States Air Force for four years. He was a veteran of WWII, a member of the Air Corps in experiment of the first African American Flyer as an Aircraft Mechanic. Larry was honorably discharged in 1946 as a T-Sergeant and served 12 years in the “Reserve”. He remained a civilian by working as a supply clerk at Maywood AFD in Los Angeles, CA and DESC in Dayton, OH. Larry later transferred to FHA in Albuquerque, retiring after a total of 34 years of Federal employment in 1982.

His first two marriages included three children, Larry, Jr., Gregory and Linda. Larry, Jr. and Linda both preceded him in death. Larry has numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. To his present marriage of 62 years, he leaves to remember his passing three of four sons, Michael, Douglas and Laurence Karl. His fourth son, Roderick Bruce preceded him in death in 1989. There are eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; two cousins, James Houston of Austin, TX and Rose Sorrell of Dallas, TX; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and associates.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018, 6:00 p.m., at FRENCH – University. Burial will be held in the family’s plot in Bastrop, TX at a later date. Our sincere thanks to the FRENCH staff and all the BeeHive and Ravenna Assisted Living staff who so kindly cared for Larry.
