On Sunday, February 21, 2021, Kim Elaine Hanley, passed away peacefully in Albuquerque, New Mexico surrounded by her two sisters, Gail Hanley, Carla Marques, and her niece Lorna Hanley. She was 62 years old.
Kim was born in Cuba, New York to Wallace and Mary Hanley. She graduated from Window Rock High School in 1976 and soon after had her only daughter, Shawna Begay, Ph.D. of Tempe, AZ. At the time of her death she resided in Tuba City, Arizona with her rescue dog Harley.
Kim doted on her granddaughter Kezia Owens (Mesa, AZ) and two great grandchildren, Audrey and Kiera. She also had a passion for 70's rock and attended many concerts throughout her life seeing The Rolling Stones, The Eagles, Kiss, The Commodores, Stevie Knicks and Rick James to name a few. She was also very crafty, making beautiful jewelry and sparkly curios for her friends and family. Kim also loved collecting miniature figurines including Indigenous pottery, tea sets, and kachina dolls.
Kim spent most of her life working hard all over the state of Arizona for the Arizona Laborers Union. Her legacy can be seen through construction all over Arizona working on Glen Canyon Dam, Theodore Roosevelt Dam, and Bank one Ballpark (now known as Chase Field) when it first opened. Most recently she was employed with Tuba City Regional Health Care Center.
Kim was preceded in death by her grandparents Max and Sistah Hanley of Tuba City, AZ and Ruth and Harry Wilson of Olean, NY.
A private memorial service will be held in Window Rock, Arizona on March 6, 2021 and will include close family members and friends. Condolence letters can be sent to P.O. Box 42 Window Rock, AZ 86515.
