Kenneth Hamilton Slick, 88 years old, a beloved husband and father, was called home to his Lord on May 27, 2016. Kenneth was born in Taneytown, Maryland on February 14, 1928 to Charles and Anne Slick and was the third of seven children. Kenneth was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army and stationed in Germany for 3 years.
After returning from overseas, Kenneth headed west. He met the love of his life, Ruth Elaine Papenfuhs in Forsyth, Montana and a unique love story began, spanning over 66 blessed years. They were married in St. Maries, Idaho on June 22, 1951 and ultimately settled in the Southwest. Kenneth always enjoyed the mountains, especially Sandia Crest, and the beautiful sunsets.
Kenneth began driving trucks when he was 18 and enjoyed being an "18-wheeler" for 47 years until he retired in 1993 from Yellow Freight System after 28 years of safe driving. He was a Teamster since April, 1952 and belonged to Teamsters local #492. Over his career of over 47 years of driving, he accumulated over 3 million miles accident-free, an exceptional accomplishment, one his family was so proud of him for. He enjoyed his air-conditioned truck cab "office" over the miles, but always looked forward to being home with his family.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Anne and Charles Slick, brothers Charles, George, John, Robert and Richard and his only sister Mary. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth, daughter Janine Slick of Dadeville, AL, son Steven Slick (Merri) of Bonaire, GA, daughter Barbara Bonnet (Gabriel) of Reno, NV and son John Slick of Atlanta, GA, four grandchildren - Megan Faucher (Bill), Meridith Voshell (Ryan), Seth Slick and Sara Slick, and one great-granddaughter, Aubrey Lee as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family extends a special thank you to Lorraine Olson, CNP, of IPC Healthcare, the staff of Atria Vista del Rio Assisted Living, OnPointe at Home Personal Care Services staff and also to the OnPointe at Home Hospice staff for their loving, compassionate care of both Kenneth and his family.
