Kelly Thornton Burnett (nee Morehead), 40, beloved wife, daughter, mother, sister, daughter-in-law, and aunt, was called to her eternal resting place on Monday, January 9, 2023. She entered this world on August 31, 1982, in Grants, NM. Her parents are Dan and Monet Morehead, and she was raised in Albuquerque with her sister, Stacy Morehead. She graduated with a BS from UNM's EMS Academy and was working toward her Public Health MS through WNMU.
Kelly is survived by her husband of two years, David Burnett; her son, Avery Fluck; father, Dan Morehead; mother, Monet Morehead; sister, Stacy Morehead (fiancé Chris); niece, Audrey Honey; mother-in-law, Diana Burnett; father-in-law, Dave Burnett; sisters-in-law, Deborah Burnett, and Danielle Burnett; nephew, Joshua Burnett; as well as other family and numerous friends.
Kelly was a loving mother, daughter, wife, and co-worker. She cared deeply for those around her, devoting her time to her family and her job. Kelly worked for Albuquerque Ambulance for more than 10 years. She was a licensed Paramedic and became the Deputy Chief of Specialized Services, overseeing the Critical Care Transport team and the Mobile Integrated Health Team. She also oversaw the infectious disease response to COVID. She was a founding member of the AAS Peer Support Team and functioned as the Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator for AAS. Kelly was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in 2021. She fought a brave battle, never quitting, never giving up hope, always fighting. When not working, Kelly enjoyed working on home projects, going Pokémon hunting with Avery and friends all over the country, watching horror movies, spending time with friends and family; especially her son and fur babies, and even trying something new when she took up bowling with her husband. Kelly wasn't afraid of a new challenge, she wasn't afraid of hard work, and she wasn't afraid to have fun. Kelly will be missed by those who were fortunate enough to know and love her. Her bravery and spirit are to be admired. She didn't stop fighting against her cancer. We didn't want to let her go, but we knew she fought with all of her might, until the end. Kelly will forever be in our thoughts and in our hearts. She will forever be our hero.
A memorial service for Kelly will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 2:00 pm at 4500 Montbel Place, (at Albuquerque Ambulance Services and parking will be directly south of the AAS large lot) with Dave Chapek delivering the eulogy. In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation to Leukemia Lymphoma Society.
