Keith Edmond Poitras

Keith E. Poitras, age 71, a resident of Albuquerque for 40 years, died peacefully Sunday, February 10, 2019.  He is survived by his wife of nearly 49 years, Marilyn (Blanchette) Poitras of Albuquerque; daughter and son-in-law, Angelique and Scott Henderson of Albuquerque; son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Paula Poitras of Prescott Valley, AZ; and five grandchildren, Drew Henderson, Dylan Henderson, Grace Poitras, Ava Poitras, and Ella Poitras.  Additionally, he is survived by his sister, Sharon Coen and her husband, Russ of Sedona, AZ; brothers, Marvin Poitras of Edgewood and Vernon Poitras of Albuquerque; along with numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Edmond and Marie Poitras; as well as his sister, Joyce Whitman Scherer.

Keith was a devoted husband, loving father, and loyal friend.  A former NHRA drag racer in his early adulthood, he continued to have a passion for all forms of racing, and classic automobiles.  Keith was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and UNM Lobo fan and enjoyed watching sports of all kinds.  He spent numerous years coaching youth soccer in both AYSO, as well as for the Classic Soccer Club in the Duke City Soccer League.  He enjoyed taking vacations to Disneyland with his family, and hiking with his wife throughout the southwest to visit numerous national parks and Native American ruins.  He was a talented carpenter and craftsman who could truly build or fix anything.  He used that building talent and eye for perfection throughout his career in the construction industry, where he was currently working as a Project Manager for the State of New Mexico in the Facilities Management Division.   More important to Keith than all of those things though was his faith in Jesus Christ.  He attended Calvary Chapel for the past 15 years and grew deeper in his faith each and every day.

A Celebration of Keith’s life will be held Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at FRENCH – Wyoming with Keith’s nephew, Pastor Jeorge Holmes officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Mexico Cancer Center Foundation, 4901 Lang Ave NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109.
