Katie Sena

Katie Sena, beloved and treasured "Nana" passed away peacefully, Friday, August 4, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, Fidel; her children, Mabel Santiago (Joe), Richard Sena, and Sylvia Wimberly (Mike); grandchildren, Joey Santiago (Lindsay), David Santiago (Mary), Steven Wimberly, Daniel Wimberly, and Elise Sena; sister, Ramona Martinez of Santa Fe; and many nieces and nephews. Katie was preceded in death by her parents, Frederico and Delia Bustamante; her sister, Rose Miller; and her brothers, Simon (Jimmy) and Pete Bustamante.

Katie was born in Raton, NM to Frederico and Delia Bustamante. She was a teacher in San Miguel County, teaching children from grades 1-3. Katie left teaching to raise her family in Santa Fe, but eventually returned to the classroom. She finally retired from Santa Fe Public Schools. Katie and Fidel moved to Albuquerque in 2001 to be close to their children and grandchildren. She loved to cook and bake for her family and made sure their favorite foods were waiting for them at all family gatherings.

Friends may visit Thursday, August 17, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, August 18, 2017, 9:00 a.m. at The Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Road NE. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joey Santiago, David Santiago, Daniel Wimberly, Elise Sena, Steven Wimberly, Joe Santiago, and Mike Wimberly.

Katie's family would like to thank her caregiver, Janet Palacios, who became a part of the family. She cared for her with love and compassion. Additionally, the family would like to thank Rosa Hernandez for her help and friendship and Hospice de la Luz, especially Leigh Knox, Kim Anthony, and Dr. Ortega for their care and support. Lastly, thank you to Pat Sena, her nephew, who would bring communion.
