Mother Katie Maxine Rogers, age 98, transitioned from this life to her eternal home on December 29, 2018 in Hemby Bridge, NC. She was born on September 15, 1920 in Fairfield, OK to Jim and Rosie (Lewis) Manning. Mother Rogers was the oldest of five children. She grew up on a farm in Longdale, OK. As a child, Mother Rogers remained close to her mother, working in the kitchen or doing other chores.
In 1938, she married Omar J. Rogers. To this union was born seven children. Mother Rogers was a devoted mother and wife. She was very supportive of her husband's career as a teacher, especially when he was working on his Master's and Doctorate degrees.
Mother Rogers received Christ at an early age and remained committed to her relationship with Him until she took her last breath. She was the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman who nourished people around her with love, faith, and prayer. Every morning and evening, Mother Rogers had her devotion which included prayer and reading the Bible. Nothing interfered with her daily prayer time. Everyone who came in contact with her could see and feel the evidence of her love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
The shopping center was her evangelistic field. During her trips to the mall, she would share the love of Jesus Christ with everyone she met and invite them to church. Mother Rogers always had a kind word and could always be heard saying some of the following: "If there is breath, there is hope;" "Peace be with us;" and "I love you a great big 'ole bunch." She was a faithful member of God's House Church (Albuquerque, NM), Power House Church (Albuquerque, NM), and Victory Christian Center (Charlotte, NC).
She is survived by her children, Gilford (Jocelyn), Omar (Sharon), Cynthia (Gary) Watson, Byron (Selma), Robert (Nancy), Theresa (Brian) Coy; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a cousin; a niece and two nephews.
Mother Rogers was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Maybelle, Violet, Ella Mae, Robert; husband, Omar; and daughter, Linda. We will miss her, but we know she is dancing around the throne of Jesus.
