Kathryn A. Thomson (nee: Murphy) Kathryn, better known as Kay and to some as Mrs. T., died August 24, 2014 at the age of 97. She was preceded in death by her husband of over fifty-five years, Joseph F. Thomson, Sr., and her eldest son, Joseph F. Thomson, Jr., former Bernalillo County Assessor. Kay was born on September 7, 1916, in Fall River, Massachusetts and was raised in South Groveland, Massachusetts by an aunt and uncle, after the death of her father, a Fall River police officer who died due to the Spanish influenza pandemic (1918-1919). After marrying on May 18, 1940, Kay and Joe lived in the Kingsbridge section of the west Bronx, New York City, N.Y., attended Our Lady of Angels Church, served on its altar guild and rosary society, and raised four children who attended the parish school. Kay worked for many years in dental offices as an assistant and receptionist. After Joe's retirement from the New York Stock Exchange in 1973, they moved to Albuquerque, N.M. Kay, known as Mima to her grandchildren, volunteered for many years at University of New Mexico Hospital caring for newborns, particularly preemies, by holding and rocking them while softly talking and singing to them. At the time, Kay was featured on a news program highlighting hospital volunteers. Kay loved to play Maj Jong and each year anxiously awaited the new "cards." She also enjoyed a good game of bridge with her friends. She had a 90th birthday party which was attended by many relatives and friends. Kay is survived by Dr. Brendan Thomson and his wife, Sandra, of Phoenix and Flagstaff, AZ; retired state District Court Judge Gerard Thomson, and his wife, Gloria Tristani, former Federal Communications Commission of Chevy Chase, Maryland; and Kathy Thomson, who works and coached at Albuquerque Public Schools; grandchildren, Brendan M. and his wife, Stephanie, Ryan and his wife, Harmony, Michael, Andrew and his wife, Amie, and their children, Mia and Henry, Gerard Jr. (Roddy) and his wife, Erika, and their children, Paisley and Olivia, Dennis and his wife, Michelle and their daughters, Josephine and Eleonore, Jorge, Vanesa and her husband, Caesar Nunez and their son, Javier.
