Katie was a woman of many talents, none more honorable than her role as a wife and mother or more meaningful than a nurturer to her family. By today’s standards she might be thought of as “old school” providing tirelessly for her family. She maintained a canning process to handle her husband’s garden produce to include in the family’s meals throughout the year. She baked bread weekly, prepared specialty dishes such as povitica, ravioli, and (a family favorite) posole. She made the holidays memorable with her famous fudge and divinity along with other baked goodies and candies. She sewed her daughter’s school uniforms when Barbara was young and made leisure suits for her husband, son in law and grandson. Her sewing skills landed her employment with the Fishback Dance Studio where she made the costumes for numerous performances. She even lovingly stitched her daughter’s wedding dress. Once her children were grown, Katie took up quilting. Mastering the craft, she shared her works with her ever growing family creating what would become cherished family heirlooms. Just like beautiful intricate patterns meticulously stitched together in a quilt, each piece unique yet vital to the completed work, so is our family. She was beautiful intricate, unique, and vital as our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and cousin, you’ve loved us well. Now, rest in the loving arms of God, you will be missed.
