Katherine Kyger, age 95, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2016. Born as Katherine Reidy in 1920, the fourth of seven children, "Kitty" and her family lived in a small one bathroom home in Philadelphia. Decades before the Women's Lib Movement, Kitty and her sisters took flying lessons, and she earned her solo certificate in 1944. During WWII she did volunteer work for the local civil defense organization in Philadelphia. She drove across the country with her sister Rita, and the two also traveled to Cuba. Kitty met her husband, Charles, at Biggs Army Airfield in 1953. Before starting a family of their own, they did volunteer work at a local orphanage. As an Air Force Officer, Chuck completed his assignment at Biggs and the two went on to Walker Air Force Base in Roswell. They moved to Albuquerque in 1957, where they raised four children, served as founding members of Our Lady of Annunciation Parish, and worked closely with the church's religious education program. Kitty also did volunteer work for the local Birth Right Organization. They celebrated their 52nd Wedding Anniversary in 2006.
Kitty is survived by three children, Kevin, Mary Kay, and David; nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren (with two more on the way). Kitty joins Chuck, her daughter Peggy, and six siblings in the next life.
Rosary will be recited Saturday, January 23, 2016, 10:00 a.m., followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish, 2621 Vermont St. NE. A reception will follow.
