Katharine S (Scruggs) White

Katharine Stephens White, 91, passed away January 11, 2018 in Albuquerque. She is survived by her son, Jeff Stephens and wife, Carrie of New Mexico; her daughter, Mary Kay Hill and husband, Hal of New Mexico; her husband, Glenn White of Las Cruces; her brother, Jimmy Scruggs of Texas; and her brother, Jerry Scruggs of Alabama. Her surviving grandchildren and their families include Packy Hill and wife, Patty of California, Scott Stephens and wife, Katie of Colorado, Mark Stephens and wife, Khalie of New Mexico, and Jessie Kleier and husband, Josh of Missouri. Katharine had seven beautiful great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Otis Daniel Stephens; her parents, Lois and Sam Scruggs; her brother, Billy Scruggs; her sister, Sue Stephens; and her brother, Bobby Scruggs. Katharine established many new homes for her family as Otis's work led them to Pine Bluff, Houston, El Paso, Monroe, Shreveport, New Orleans, Alexandria, Memphis and finally Albuquerque. She enjoyed work as a bookkeeper and later as a home manager. With each move, Katharine and Otis searched for a home church, became members and participated actively in the church and in the community. Katharine was a caretaker for her first husband and later for children. She was gifted as a seamstress and had the gift of hospitality. In their marriage (the second for both) Katharine and Glenn happily discovered love and care for each other and continued to be active in their church and in ministry. Katharine embraced life knowing that God's hand would care for her one day at a time. Friends may visit Thursday, February 1, 2018, 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH – Lomas. A Graveside service will be held Friday, February 2, 2018, 1:30 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N Guadalupe St, Santa Fe, NM 87501.
