Karl Jurisson, 64, passed away on Sunday, June 20, 2021 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was the most amazing father, a loving son, brother, uncle, grandfather, and partner, and a much-loved friend of many, many people. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and spent his early years in Fridley, Minnesota. He is survived by his daughter, Ana Romero Jurisson (David Kaufman); grandchildren, Johnnie and Jesse Kaufman (Jen Nguyen); his partner, Julia Downs; his mother, Norma (Rolfsen) Jurisson; his two sisters, Mary Jurisson and Ann Jurisson (Liz Coburn); niece, Karen Tait Fries (Mike Fries); nephew, Erik Tait (Leslie Hoerig); and many cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Jaany Jurisson, and his father, Jaan Jurisson.
He earned his bachelor's degree in physics from the University of Minnesota, and his master's in physics from the University of Utah, where he met his former wife and Ana's mom, Linda Romero. He moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1983, where he worked as a tutor at UNM before working at TRW/Northop Grumman. In New Mexico, he fell in love with the mountains, especially skiing in Taos. He loved nature, science, and studying the universe. A man of many skills and interests, he was a prodigious skier, runner, sailor, and musician. He was funny, passionate, kind, loving, a great storyteller, and the subject of many great stories. He was a lot of people's best friend.
Viewing will be held at FRENCH- University on Thursday, July 8, 2021, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Service will be held on Friday, July 9, 2021, 11:00 a.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1100 Indian School Rd NE, with a reception to follow.
