Karen Ruth Cutshall, 77, beloved wife and mother, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, July 31, 2017. Karen is preceded in death by her son, Nicholas Cutshall. She is survived by her husband, Jack Cutshall; her son, Jimmy Cutshall and wife Mary; her brother, Bill Duckett and wife Marlene; her granddaughter, Lyndayle Mattis-Revell, and numerous other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Karen entered this world on June 13, 1940 in Hammond, Indiana, born to Earl and Golda Duckett. She met the love of her life at 12-years-old. After high school graduation, Jack and Karen were married at the age of 18. They celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on July 26, 2017. Together, they had two sons, Jimmy Cutshall, born on July 24, 1959, and Nicholas Cutshall, born on September 26, 1962, both in Hammond, Indiana.
Before marriage, Karen was an excellent student and was very active in school choir. She took voice lessons and loved singing solos. She was a talented alto and also played the piano. Her beautiful melodies filled the room with love.
Karen was an excellent mother to her two boys. She was passionately engaged in their schooling activities and cub scouts. Together, Jack and Karen taught their boys all the qualities needed to be successful in life.
Karen was also an accomplished seamstress. For many years, she was involved with the Albuquerque Heights Opera, where she designed and repaired costumes. She was always in her sewing room creating new masterpieces. Her sewing and crocheting varied from clothes to hats and mittens, blankets, robes and slippers, etc. No project was too big or too small for her.
After Jimmy and Nicky were in high school, Karen decided to go back to school to obtain a degree in Nursing. She went on to earn her Master’s Degree with high honors. She worked as a registered nurse for 15 years and retired at the age of 53. She had a comforting bedside manner.
Karen was a self-taught computer guru. She maintained books for the family business. She was smart, organized, and caring. She made sure everything was always taken care of.
After retirement, Jack and Karen started trying to spend more time visiting the lake to fish and play with the boat. Karen became a very good boat driver for Jack. They loved to travel and together saw the most beautiful places in this country.
A beloved mother and wife, Karen loved her family and she loved spending time with them. She enjoyed cooking and hosting holidays at her house, where she would cook glamorous feasts. Baking was another one of her many talents. Karen was loved by her entire family and friends.
Karen was passionate about many things. She will be truly missed by all. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Victory Outreach Church, 435 Jefferson Street SE, in Albuquerque.
