Kaitlyn Veronica "Katie" Joyce went to be with the Lord on August 31, 2024. She was born on August 4th, 2006 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. At age 17 she trusted Jesus as her personal Savior. She is survived by her parents John and Marilyn Joyce, her sister Brianna Joyce, her grandmother Eunice Mason, and her many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. Katie is preceded in death by her grandparents Lois and Alec Joyce, grandfather Paul Mason, and her cousin Michelle Vallance.
Everyone who knew Katie remembers her contagious smile and boundless energy. She never knew a stranger and could strike up conversation with anyone. With her family, Katie always loved to go camping, hiking, riding horses, fishing, and visiting extended family out of state.
Katie was very active and loved sports. She participated in gymnastics, soccer, basketball, karate, swimming, and found her passion in volleyball and tennis. As an avid volleyball player, she started at age 11 with local home school team the Wildcats. Next she played with a local recreational team, Zia Red club team, ARVC club team, two years with Valencia high school, and two years with varsity championship winning (AHSA)Albuquerque Home School Association team. She also enjoyed learning to downhill ski with her Dad.
Katie also had a musical side. She started on piano with the Yamaha keyboard program at age 6, and took private lesson for a few years after finishing that program. She played clarinet with the Mid-Rio Grande Home School Band for 5 years, then switched to guitar for the past year and would have continued with it. She loved to play guitar at home for her family.
In addition to music, Katie greatly enjoyed art. She took various art classes over the years and had so much fun experimenting with different art mediums.
Katie was home schooled, participating in three local co-op programs during her education. She loved to be with other kids, always the social butterfly. She was looking forward to graduating high school in May 2025.
Katie really enjoyed working and interacting with people. Her first work experience was serving concessions at Isotopes and United games in Albuquerque. Over the past year Katie has loved working at the local Dion's pizza restaurant in Los Lunas.
We loved Katie very dearly, and she brought so much joy and excitement to our lives. There was never a dull or quiet moment with Katie around. We already miss her so much.
