Junia Larue Hughes Stevens, 90 years old, died peacefully Sunday, February 8, 2015 surrounded by her family and friends. Born in Danville, Indiana in 1924, she had been a resident of Albuquerque since 1932. She graduated from Albuquerque High School and attended Choinard Art Institute in Los Angeles, California. Junia was a charter member of the Rio Grande Woodcarvers association. She loved designing and hand carving Spanish Colonial furniture, which was her passion until her death. She is survived by five children, Allan, Roxanne, Richard, Janine and Robert; eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Junia was one of the colonizing members of St. Marks on the Mesa Episcopal Church and a Presbyterian Hospital volunteer for many years in the 1950s. She was part owner of Robert Stevens Advertising and Bandelier Films, one of the first films companies in New Mexico. Junia was a kind and gentle soul and will be missed by her family and many friends at Sandia Springs Assisted Living in Rio Rancho.
