June Disert
Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, NM
DOD April 30, 2022
Patricia Leigh Disert, with great sadness of heart, announces that her mother, June Disert, a resident of Los Ranchos, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2022 at the age of 94. She was a grade school teacher in her early years, and was the Learning Center "Lady" in lower L at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, NY in the 1970s & 1980s. She and her husband, Joseph Disert, retired to New Mexico in 1987 to be with their daughter.
Her favorite place was an old family farm in Callicoon, NY on the north side of a hill going from the Callicoon Creek at the bottom to the flat top of the hill. She and her husband planted 17,000 Christmas trees on the flat top of the hill. Our family and friends enjoyed picking just the "right one" during the Holidays.
From the vantage point of the farmhouse, she could look west up the Delaware River Valley to see storms coming in, and beautiful sunsets which she always watched from the front porch.
In the Spring, the peepers would lull her to sleep with their calling.
She had extensive vegetable and flower gardens, including a raspberry patch from which she made jam and sold raspberries. The farm had an apple orchard and every year she and our family made cider from an 1850's cider press.
She hosted many weekend and weeklong house parties at the farm, and with a small cottage on the property, there was always room for multiple families and guests. A superb cook, her favorite dishes were boeuf bourguignon, coq au vin, shish-kebabs, steak, strawberry short cake and raspberry shrub.
She lived in Los Ranchos for 35 years until passing, once again growing very productive vegetable gardens and filling freezers with vegetables, soups, sauces and purees. She will be best remembered as an awesome gardener, cook, and hostess.
She was strong, determined, effervescent, and funny.
She was beloved by all who met her, and will be mourned by many, most recently the incredible staff and nurses at The Woodmark at Uptown Assisted Living facility, who went above and beyond to take care of her.
Her husband, Joseph Frank Disert, passed about 2 ½ years ago but she remained a cheerful person to the end. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Leigh Disert and her husband, Kim Murphy of Albuquerque; her sister, Barbara Moore of South Salem, NY; her niece, Sue Moore Rodgers and husband, Jim Rodgers of Pittsburg, PA; and nephew, Thomas Moore and wife, Melissa of Amesbury, MA. She also has family remaining on her husband's side, including Lynda O'Donnell and her husband, Kevin of Venice, FL.
