Julie Marie Sauter

Julie Marie Sauter passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loving family on March 25, 2024.

Born Maria Anna Piva in Lucca, Italy, on September 3, 1935, Julie was the eldest of three children. Julie was raised in Florence, Italy, primarily by her father during the difficult times of World War II and post-war Italy. In 1958 Julie married Ronald B. Sauter who was serving with the United States Air Force in Germany. She became a proud United States citizen in 1966. A dedicated military spouse, Julie worked several jobs such as a florist in Hawaii and salesclerk in Albuquerque. However, her main focus was always her family. 

She coordinated many memorable family celebrations and actively supported her children and grandchildren’s school events and sports activities.

Julie was preceded in death by her son Gregory (1964), husband Ronald (2001), sister Lori (2010) and daughter Kimberly (2012).

Julie is survived by daughter Elizabeth McIntyre (John); son Stephen Sauter (JoAnn); and brother Robert Hudson. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Monica, Lindsay, Sean, Nicholas, Brianna, Kylie, Chase, Amber and Krysta; seven great-grandchildren: Brynn, Ethan, Spencer, Bailey, Bodhi, Landon and Kannen; her long-time companion Ted Rush; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 8, 2024, at 11:00am at FRENCH-Wyoming, Albuquerque followed by burial at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:30pm.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Julie’s name to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
