Julianne Grove, 84, died Friday, October 2, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Julianne, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Stewart, was born and raised in Pueblo, Colorado. She graduated from Central High, where she participated in cheerleading and golf. She went on to attend Pueblo College, where she earned an Associate's Degree in Radiology. Shortly after college, Julianne married her high school sweetheart, Carl M. Grove, Jr.
In 1959, after Carl's service in the Marine Corps on board the USS Valley Forge, Julianne and Carl moved their young family to Albuquerque. They purchased a home in the Northeast Heights near Carlisle and Comanche when Carlisle was still a dirt road. Julianne loved her home and never moved again.
An avid artist, Julianne loved to paint flowers and landscapes. Energetic and always full of life, Julianne would bustle around her home while singing her favorite songs, painting, gardening and caring for her greatest joys, her three children. Julianne loved road trips and days on the lake. She waterskied until she was nearly 50 years old.
After raising her three children, Julianne enjoyed spending time with her husband Carl as he traveled around New Mexico and Colorado as a pharmaceutical representative for the Upjohn Company. She was particularly active in the lives of her two oldest grandchildren, both of whom thought of her more as a parent than grandparent.
Julianne typified the post-war generation. She and Carl were hardworking, responsible, community-minded people who put their family above all else. She left a wonderful legacy for her children and grandchildren, all of whom will miss her dearly. Tough as nails, Julianne was a breast cancer survivor.
Julianne is survived by her two brothers, Robert Stewart, Esq. and William Stewart, COL, USAF (ret.); three children, Valerie A. Ward, Carl M. Grove, III, and Stewart A. Grove, CPO, USN (ret.); two daughters-in-law, Carl's wife Kathy Grove and Stewart's wife Helen Grove; five grandchildren, Vincent Ward, Esq., Jason Ward, Carl Grove IV, Alison Grove and A1C Allan Grove, USAF, Vincent's wife Renee Ward, and one great-granddaughter, Callia Ward.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, October 9, 2015, 11:00 a.m., at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5311 Phoenix NE. Afterward, she will be buried at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery beside the love of her life, Carl. A reception will follow.
