Julia (Julie) Elizabeth Sanchez, 66, beloved daughter and sister, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, with her mother and brother by her side. She was born on Sunday, June 6,1954, and was a lifetime Albuquerque resident. Her exuberant personality, keen sense of humor, curiosity, and love of the Beatles and Dallas Cowboys were never diminished during all the years of dealing with MS and other complications. An amazing child of the universe, her quick wit will be sorely missed. Julie is survived by her mother, Elsie Samora Sanchez; her brother, Victor Sanchez; and aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Dennis Sanchez.
Julie was an honor student at St. Vincent Academy for Girls where she excelled in Latin and Greek Mythology. She served as an officer for the St. Vincent Junior Classical League Chapter, and won several awards at State and National Conventions. After St. Vincent’s closed in 1969, she attended Highland High School, graduating in 1971. She completed her BUS degree at UNM in 1975 and attended UNM Law School. She also studied at Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, Mexico, and in Madrid, Spain.
Julie suffered a tragic brain injury in 1971, with lasting effects, caused by a negligent driver running a red light and ramming her car. Thankfully, her strong spirited persona and her metaphysical belief system allowed her to circumvent obstacles and live life on her own terms. She never complained, never looked back, and always cheerful.
Julie was an avid reader and super grammarian. She had a great capacity for remembering numbers and rarely wrote down an account number or phone number.
She had great compassion for other disabled individuals and often advocated on their behalf. An animal lover, she rescued abused dogs, providing them training and a good home.
