Julia D. Bloomquist, age 71, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, went to be with her Lord on Friday, April 28, 2023.
Julia was born on March 11, 1952, in Oregon City, Oregon, to LaVerne and Mardell Streight. She grew up in a loving Christian home alongside her brother and two sisters. She attended Northwest Nazarene University where, on a choir tour of Europe, she met Doug Bloomquist who stood behind her on the risers as they sang and was immediately smitten. They were married on August 26, 1972, in Nampa, Idaho, and, after finishing his senior year, they moved to Pullman, Washington. She continued her education and worked full time in the computing center while Doug pursued his doctorate. Upon graduation they moved to Albuquerque where they had two children, Eric and Rebecca. Julia loved being a mother and cherished the time she had caring for her "miracle" babies. She stayed at home and raised them until they were nearly out of the home when she went to work for Sandia National Labs Federal Credit Union. She worked there for a little over 10 years as a teller where people regularly complemented her beautiful fingernails.
Two of her primary passions were singing in choral groups at church and teaching children about Jesus. For more than 30 years she taught preschool children in Sunday School or cared for them as the 'nursery lady' and had the privilege of having numerous second-generation students in her care. She loved going to Lobo basketball games, cross-stitching, spending time on the beach, spoiling her grandchildren, and collecting Precious Moments figurines. In retirement, the two enjoyed traveling the country in their motorhome and were fortunate to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this past August with family and friends. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, friend, and disciple of Jesus.
She is survived by her husband, Doug Bloomquist; her son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Diana; grandchildren, Annabelle and Madeline; her daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Tom Luper; grandchildren, Caleb and Emma; her brother and sister-in-law, David and Joy Streight, and her sister and brother-in-law Karen and Keith Horwood. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Marilee Shively.
