Judith M. “Judy” Cox, 81, a resident of Albuquerque, NM since 1959, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 29, 2022. Judy was born on Saturday, March 14, 1941, in Santa Fe, NM, to Alma and George Fritzges. She is survived by her loving spouse of 60 years, Ronald Cox; children, Michael and Caren Cox; brother, Johnny Fritzges; sisters, Francine Greene and Dorthea Harrison; and many other family members.
Judy was the third child born of six kids including two older sisters, two younger sisters, and a younger brother. Growing up in Santa Fe on a large plot provided many adventures for Judy and her siblings. She loved to tell funny stories about growing up and all that it entailed: playing with lots of animals including goats, kittens, and a turkey; eating wonderful home-cooked meals prepared by her mamma; getting asked by her daddy if she had a hollow leg because she ate so much, but was skinny as a rail; going to the nearby radio tower to have long conversations with her friend; pushing her baby brother down the driveway in a wagon at full speed; annoying her eldest sister as she tried to study; jumping on the beds with her siblings; being shushed by her mamma for too much talking at bedtime; getting a candy bar as a treasured reward for pulling weeds; getting tied to a tree by her mamma because she misbehaved; and so, so much more!
At twenty years old, Judy met Ron through a mutual friend. Ron lived in Albuquerque at the time but made several trips to Santa Fe to visit her and win her over. Judy didn’t immediately take a liking to Ron, but would joke that his sense of humor, and his mom and dad, Margaret and Bob Cox, are what won her over. Ron would soon become her husband and later the father of their two children. They married Saturday, January 13, 1962, and bought their first and only home on June Street where they lived happily for the next 60 years. Their favorite thing to do was travel together, and they went to many wonderful places to include: Victoria, British Columbia; Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; a cruise to South America; Alaska; Hawaii; a train trip through Canada; and many states within the U.S.
People would agree that Judy was a beautiful person, both inside and out, and was a loving, spirited, and faithful wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend. Although diagnosed with dementia in 2014, she kept her lively sense of humor, bold spirit, and deep love for her family and God to the end. Judy was loved by many people, and she will be greatly missed, but her spirit lives on and we will meet her again someday.
