Joyle Moyer went to the Lord on September 29, 2021 at the age of 85.
Joyle was raised in Lincoln, Nebraska. Her parents were second generation Germans from Russia immigrants with strong work ethics and pride in their country.
Joyle attended University of Nebraska in the then new field of Speech Correction. She was a member of Alpha Chi Sorority. Her senior year, she married John Moyer, her high school sweetheart. While John got his Masters in Engineering, Joyle worked in the Lincoln Public Schools serving five grade schools and one Junior High.
John and Joyle moved to Albuquerque in 1960 where they raised a son and daughter. They loved the historical and cultural changes that Albuquerque brought which lead them to visit many Indian Pueblos and explore many historical ruins.
Joyle received a Master of Science degree in 1982 at the University of New Mexico as a Speech and Language Pathologist. She went to work for APS as an SLP and was appointed to the "Head Teacher" position. Her final school was Comanche Elementary where she worked until her retirement. At Comanche, she served as Head of the Special Ed department working with regular and special education children.
Her memos to the Special Education Staff were always interjected with humor. In one memo she included responses from 1st graders on farm animals:
CHICKENS GIVE US MILKS
BABY CHICKENS ARE CALLED DUCKS
DUCKS AND CHICKENS HAVE FUR
Joyle loved traveling to explore new cultures and visit historical sites. She set out on many RV journeys across the US followed by explorations, tours, and cruises to many other countries. Her loyal travel partner was her husband, John but was also often joined by her daughter and grandchildren.
Retirement was family time. Special memories were added every year. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren and attended as many tournaments, games and school events as possible.
She always had a great love for animals. Some pets she owned included a mule, skunk, sparrow, rabbits, roosters, dogs and cats. Most of her pets were rescued. For years she fed the prairie dogs locked in small areas with housing developments. One day she and a friend buried peanuts throughout the prairie dog village. Turning around, they watched a pair of prairie dogs walking behind them, digging up nuts to eat.
She is survived by her husband, John Moyer, of 63 years; daughter, Cori Pruitt; and her four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Curt Moyer. We rejoice over her life and are grateful that she was a believer in Jesus Christ. A private service will be held in the coming weeks.
Instead of flowers, if you wish to send a donation please send it to an animal sanctuary of your choice- Prairie Dog Pals, Animal Human Society of Albuquerque, and Best Friends Animal Sanctuary of Kanab UT were among Joyle's favorites.
