Joyce Laverne Burgess, a resident of Albuquerque and Placitas for 30 years, passed away in Hot Springs, Arkansas on December 4, 2015 at the age of 76.
Joyce is survived by Edward Burgess her loving husband of more than 54 years. They were married in Royal, Arkansas on June 16, 1961.
Joyce is lovingly remembered by her children, Wesley and wife Kathy of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Shannon Denison and husband Scott, of Gilbert, Arizona; grandchildren, Samantha, Joel and Hannah Burgess; sister, Patsy Rowton and husband Lonnie, and sister, Carolyn Henry, both of Royal, Arkansas, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joyce was born in Royal, Arkansas on November 1, 1939. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from the University of Arkansas in 1961, a Master of Science in Food Sciences from the University of Arkansas in 1965 and was a Registered Dietician. She worked as a Home Economist at PNM, taught Home Economics at John Adams Middle School in Albuquerque and taught Foods and Nutrition at UNM.
Joyce was a talented cook, seamstress, and party host, but her real passion was in sharing God's Word. She served as the Albuquerque Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) Teaching Leader for 13 years, led various Women's Ministries at Hoffmantown Church, and served as a Community Bible Study (CBS) Teaching Leader.
