Joyce Anderson was born during the Great Depression of 1930. She and her sister, Betty, grew up at Buckner Orphanage, in Dallas, TX. Although their mother, Bessie was alive, she remained in their home to take care of Ramon, the third daughter who suffered with polio.
During these years our mother developed her "mettle", resiliency, and "moxie", determination. She was a brilliant child and could have excelled in any career path. But a handsome soldier during the Korean War swept her off her feet in love.
Jim and Joyce would marry and have four children: John, Jim, Jane, and Joey.
As an Administrative Assistant at the collegiate level, mom supported our Dad as he obtained his doctorate level in education. Dad told mom, "You should have been the one reaching higher education. "
Mom had many interests: gardening, reading, cooking, making jewelry, all while caring for her family.
Her favorite song was "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" from the Wizard of Oz.
Someday I'll wish upon a star and wake up where the clouds are far behind me where troubles melt like lemon drops way above the chimney tops that's where you'll find me.
Joyce loved dogs and would take in strays who needed a home and love.
Donations to the Animal Humane would be appreciated. Thank you.
