Joseph Leroy Lucero, 79, our family hero, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2024. Joseph proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and bravely fought in the Vietnam war. His family was his pride and joy. After his retirement from the City of Albuquerque, he enjoyed vacationing and having weekly dinners with his family. He was best known for his kind and generous nature. His family called him "the gentle giant." He loved helping others in need. He made donations to multiple charities and would often give his last dollar in his wallet to the homeless. He is survived by his wife Gloria Lucero, daughter, Janelle Estrada, grandchildren, Elijah Estrada, Josiah Estrada, Dominic Estrada, brother, Steve Lucero, and nieces', Desiree Chavez, Ocianna Green, and Annalysia Green. Joseph was preceded in death by his father Bart Lucero, mother, Ophelia Lucero, and brother Rick Lucero. He also leaves behind many other cherished family members, including cousins, nieces, nephews, and brother and sister-in-laws.
His celebration of life will occur on Friday, January 24, 2025 at 10:00 AM at French Funeral Home located at 9300 Golf Course Rd. NW, Albuquerque NM, 87114. The burial will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery located at 501 Guadalupe St. Santa Fe, NM 87501 at 1:00 PM. A reception will follow the burial at 3:00 PM. Location will be disclosed at the services.
