Joseph Leon Gonzales, 63, of Albuquerque, died unexpectedly on June 28, 2022.
Joseph "Joe" was born May 20, 1959, in Albuquerque, NM. He graduated from Valley High School in 1977 and became a certified mechanic. He managed his own automotive repair business for over 35 years and also built up his family's school bus contracting business to be a successful privately contracted outfit. An accomplished businessman, he was also a dedicated father to his daughter Michelle and his son Julian. He enjoyed coaching their soccer teams, softball team, and baseball team, while poring his time and skill into them and being the best of providers to his family. Joe was the pillar of a vibrant and social family that enjoyed involvement in their church community, friendships with neighbors, and building relationships through the interactions at his shop and the sharing of stories.
His favorite pastimes included taking out his camper, watching football, and quoting movies with his kids. His community of neighbors and friends remember him as a selfless and hardworking man, demonstrated by his remarkable craftmanship and relentless work ethic. His loved ones remember his big hugs, easy humor, and loud and contagious laugh.
In addition to his two children, Joe is survived by the mother of his children, Louise Montoya; elder siblings Ronald, Larry, Mary (Lisa), and Chuck; and younger sister Judi. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews who remember him fondly.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose Leon, and Tomasita (Aragon) Gonzales, and nephew Jason Rael.
A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 29, at FRENCH-Wyoming. Reception to follow at Community Bible Baptist Church, located at 3030 Todos Santos Dr., Albuquerque, NM 87120.
