Age 89, was born July 7, 1923 in Wheeling, West Virginia, a son of the late John Kukula, Sr. and Mary Kukula. A resident of Albuquerque since 2006, he passed away June 6, 2013. He is survived by his spouse of 43 years, Carol, of Albuquerque; son, Vincent; stepson Steve Mahnke of Gallup, NM; Grandchildren Amy Thatcher of Moriarty, NM, Amanda Medoro of West Hartford, Connecticut, Sam Mahnke of Albuquerque, NM; niece Catherine Gerhart of Exton, PA and nephew John M. Kukula of Baltimore, MD; and Great-grandchildren Austin Thatcher, Savana Thatcher and Kayla Chavez. Joe is preceded in death by his parents John Sr. and Mary and his brother John F. Kukula. Joe was retired from Kirkland Construction and worked on many highway construction projects in California and Nevada and finished his career driving a water truck, spraying the coal piles at Long Beach harbor in California. He was a member of Construction Teamsters of Southern California. Joe loved dancing, polka music and was active in the Slovak Community in Norco, CA. Pallbearers will be Sam Mahnke, Stephen Mahnke Sr., Amy Thatcher, Amanda Medoro, Austin Thatcher, and Savana Thatcher. A Prayer Vigil will be held on Tuesday July 11, 2013 at 10:00 am French- Wyoming, 7121 Wyoming Blvd NE. Interment will take place at Mound Cemetery in Racine, WI.
