Joseph E. "Joe" Van Horn, age 99, went to be with the Lord November 15, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Helen; his son, Joe Van Horn, Jr.; his daughter, Margaret Van Horn; grandchildren, Rebecca Kneemiller and husband Robert, Brad Siebold and wife Laura, five great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter, and his family and friends. Mr. Van Horn was preceded in death by his grandson, Travis; his parents, Erwin and Eloise; and his brother, Bill. Joe was born in Oklahoma and graduated from Clinton High School and Oklahoma State University, BS EE. Joe and Helen met in Drumright, Oklahoma and were married two months before he was deployed to the South Pacific in WW2. He returned home only once during the war and was discharged as a 1st Lt. in the US Army Signal Corp. Mr. Van Horn spent 28 years with the Bell System and the Bell Labs where he was a system engineer on projects such as the Transatlantic Cable, the development of microwave communication, and missile guidance systems. He eventually retired from Aerospace Corporation and spent many later years as a systems engineer consultant. He loved fly-fishing and played golf all his life. Services will be held Monday, November 24, 2014, 11:00 a.m., at Hoffmantown Church, 8888 Harper Dr. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111. Private burial will follow on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hoffmantown Church in his name.
