Joseph Hollinger

July 1, 1934 — February 15, 2024

Dr. Joseph F. Hollinger MD, passed way on February 15th, 2024, at the age of 89. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Gail Hollinger, brother and sister-in-law Buddy and Bea Hollinger, daughter's Kim and Greg Gonzales, Cindy Larue, Lisa Santillaines, Andrea and Larry Dorcus and son Jonathan Hollinger and grandchildren Sierra, Paris, Kael, Katlyn, Hayden, Jacoub, Bryant and Daniel. He is preceded in death by parents, Freida and Israel Hollinger, son Eric Hollinger and grandson Micheal Santillanes. He was born in Mount Vernon, NY, attended medical school in Switzerland and completed his medical degree in Orthopedic Surgery at New York Medical College. He moved to Albuquerque, NM, in 1969 and had a successful Orthopedic practice until retiring in 2011. He was a captain in the Army and served as a physician from 1966 to 1968. He and Gail met in the hospital where he was a surgeon, and she was a surgical nurse. They were married in 1976. He and Gail enjoyed their life together, traveling the world, trying different foods, and spending time with friends and family. He was a very adventurous man, obtained his pilot's license and owned his own airplane, enjoyed boating, RV'ing, and golfing. He was blessed with musical talent and was a member of the German Oompha Band and the Albuquerque Concert Band, where he loved playing his clarinet, saxophone, and flute. He spoke many languages including French, Spanish, German, and Hebrew. He loved being a doctor and caring for patients. He was jovial and was always good for a story and a joke. He leaves behind a long, successful, and impactful legacy. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He is truly loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
