Joseph Gideon, 96, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 25, 2021, at the VA Hospital in Albuquerque, NM.
Joe was born on November 20, 1925, in Hollis, OK, to Claude and Della Lorne (Burns) Gideon. Joe served in the Air Force during World War II. He was a tail gunner on a B-24 and was shot down behind enemy lines, captured, and held as a POW for 50 days until the camp was liberated by the Allies. Joe graduated from Oklahoma A and M (now OSU). He married Gwendolyn Fletcher. They lived in Roy and Clayton, NM before settling in Albuquerque in 1964. Gwen passed away in 1999. Joe and Gwen were long time members of First Baptist Church and Joe later attended Highland Baptist Church. Joe spent 10 years in the agriculture business before going to work for Albuquerque Gravel Products.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings, Claude Jr., Edna, Jim, Joy and Jerry. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Robert Gideon for his care of Joe over the years. Robert passed away 4 days after his Uncle Joe, and Praise God, they will spend eternity together in heaven.
Visitation will be held Monday, January 17, 2022, 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at FRENCH – Lomas, 10500 Lomas Blvd, NE.
Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, 1:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd, NE.
