Josefita "Josie" Hernandez, age 84, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2021. Josie was a beloved mother, wife and grandmother and called to her eternal resting place. She was born on January 8, 1937 in Garfield, New Mexico, to David and Manuela Casares.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete, who were married for the last 40 years. She is survived by her two daughters, Elena Hernandez and Kristine Hernandez- Wipf; grandchildren, Jade Melek and Harrison Wipf.
Josie served in the armed forces (Navy) from 1962 until 1965. She retired from Albuquerque Public schools after 30 years of service.
Our mom was a stubborn, hearty and quiet lady. She was also the most caring person and her greatest joys in her life were her children and grandchildren. She and my dad were over the moon for their only two grandchildren.
She loved to make home cooked meals for our family, she especially liked to make tortillas and chili. Her favorite pastime was to be outside tending to her planted potted flowers or her tomatoes, often with Harrison or Jade by her side. We will remember our mom and grandma for the stuff she loved to do, such as, driving to the shopping mall on the weekends, going out to eat with us, putting her Christmas decorations on display and listening to her favorite Christmas music CDs. We will miss you mom and grandma, but we have so many loving memories of all the activities we did together.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday May 20, 2021, 11:00 a.m., at FRENCH - Westside, with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
