José Ponciano Trujillo

August 19, 1924 — October 27, 2013

José Ponciano Trujillo, a resident of Albuquerque for 13 years, died Sunday, October 27, 2013. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Margaret Trujillo; his nephews and nieces, Willie Trujillo and wife, Barbara, Bertha Howell, Mary Ann Cisneros, LeRoy R. Trujillo and wife, Rebecca, Cleo Grimshaw and husband, Kenny, John E. Trujillo and wife, Diane, Cleo Chandler and husband, Darrel, Robby Trujillo and wife, Janice, Allen Trujillo, Fernie Trujillo and wife, Viola, Edna Martinez and husband, Richard, Danny Trujillo, Bernadette Trujillo-Gomez and husband, Eugene, and Juanita Woods; great nephews and nieces; great-great nephews and nieces; great-great-great nephews and nieces; and other relatives and friends. Ponciano was preceded in death by his parents Emeterio and Maria Cleofas Trujillo; wife, Mame Trujillo; sister, Lilia Madrid; brother Benjamin Trujillo; brother José Lauro Trujillo; brother Emeterio Trujillo; brother Fernando Trujillo; and niece Angie Martinez. He was born August 19, 1924 in Los Ojos, NM and went to Catholic School there while working on the farm with his brothers. Ponciano went to work in the CC Camps in the 30's and early 40's before entering the Merchant Marines, where he served honorably during WWII. In 1943, he married Helen and they were married for a brief time. Ponciano moved to Seattle where he was a barber and also was the Manager of the Washington Athletic Club. He married Mame who preceded him in death. Ponciano moved to Albuquerque in August 2000 and enjoyed his daily walks. He was a Classical and Flamenco guitarist, learning to play when he was a young man from his brother-in-law. Ponciano was also a student of Andre Segovia in the 60's. He was extremely intelligent and had a great sense of humor. Ponciano was a long time member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Los Ojos, NM and was also a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Albuquerque. He was a very loving and caring Uncle to all of the family and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Rosary will be recited Sunday, November 3, 2013, 4:00 p.m., at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 4th and Alameda, with Deacon Ralph Vigil reciting. Friends may visit beginning at 3:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated Monday, November 4, 2013, 1:00 p.m., at St. José Catholic Church in Los Ojos, NM, with Father Scott McKee, Celebrant. Interment will take place in Los Ojos Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe E. Morris, Michael Morris, Eddie Cisneros, Danny Trujillo, Diego Trujillo, and Richard Martinez. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of New Mexico, 9500 Montgomery Blvd. NE, Suite 121, Albuquerque, NM 87111, in memory of José Ponciano Trujillo.
