Surrounded by his loving family, José Manuel Rios Rivera passed away peacefully in Albuquerque on Friday, March 7, 2025, at the age of 89.
José Manuel’s life was a testament to honor, dedication, and unwavering love.
He served his country honorably in the armed forces, gaining a different perspective on life and learning the values of discipline, resilience, and compassion.
After his military service, he transitioned to a long and fulfilling career as a civil servant, receiving numerous recognitions and commendations over his 30-year career. His meticulous nature and sense of responsibility made him a cornerstone, admired for his fairness and integrity.
But his legacy extended far beyond his professional achievements. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. His commitment to his family was his greatest responsibility, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Affectionately known as "Papi" to an entire community, José Manuel's influence reached far beyond his immediate family. He was a steadfast pillar of support in times of joy and sorrow, always there for his family and friends.
He immersed himself wholeheartedly in every pursuit. Whether tending to his yard, crafting with carpentry, making home repairs, exploring new destinations, or engaging in sports—especially his beloved baseball—he approached each endeavor with boundless enthusiasm and unwavering dedication.
He commanded everyone's respect, attention, and affection, yet it was our hearts that he truly touched with his tenderness and care. His presence brought a sense of calm and security, making others feel valued and understood. His words, imbued with weight and wisdom, resonated deeply, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of hearing them.

A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 - St. Thomas Aquinas Parish at 10:30am with a graveside service to follow at 2:00pm - Santa Fe National Cemetery.
