Jose Alejandro (Alex) Maestas, Jr. went to be with our Lord early Friday morning, March 22, 2024. He was with his immediate and loving family during his last days. Alex was born in Cleveland, NM on July 11, 1932. He was raised in the mountains of Mora County, NM until he was sent to Santa Fe, NM to attend junior high at Allison-James School. "Yankee," a nickname given to him because of his favorite team, later attended high school at Menaul School in Albuquerque where he graduated with the class of 1952. Alex attended classes at UNM where he planned to become an engineer, but in 1955, his education was interrupted by the US Army. After fulfilling his obligations with the 10th Mountain Division, he went back to college. In 1958, Alex met the love of his life, Vera D. Records. They married and began a family in Albuquerque and soon moved to Las Cruces, NM to live life and raise a family. After retirement, they moved back to Albuquerque to enjoy the last adventurous phase of life with family and friends. Alex was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years. He leaves behind a loving son, Stephen Maestas, a selfless and loving daughter-in-law, Vicki, and a beautiful grand-daughter, Abrianna; an adoring daughter, Margaret Maestas and her comedic partner, Fabian Rosero. A celebration of his life will be held in Albuquerque at French's Funeral home on April 19, 2024. Rest in peace, Pop.
